Finally – Airband’s Best Commercial

Remember in my Airband wrapup how I mentioned I couldn’t find the best commercial of all?

IT’S HERE.

(thanks, Josiah).

That’s Josiah at the 1:15 mark.  There’s also an old Sammy II guy at 1:27, and then obviously, BARB! at the 3:00 mark.  Great job by Jack, too.

Jesus Paid it All

This song is better than most contemporary worship songs – combined.  That might be a slight exaggeration, but there really is so much truth here:

Jesus Paid it All (Selected verses)

I hear the Savior say,
“Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.”

[chorus]
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

Lord, now indeed I find
Thy pow’r, and Thine alone,
Can change the leper’s spots
And melt the heart of stone.

[chorus]

And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete,
I’ll lay my trophies down,
All down at Jesus’ feet.

At TU, we often tag on an exultant bridge (Imagine this in all caps – I do, at least):

Oh! Praise the One
Who paid my debts
And raised this life
Up from the dead

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

Amen.

One more Airband Commercial

I almost forgot about this, and I don’t know how – it was one of my favorite videos of the night.

(also, MAN, I don’t wanna jinx it, but I am on a blog roll {rimshot}/[pardon me] lately).

I Heart Waffle House, Part 2

It’s possible that Jenni quit before our eyes.  At least, that’s what my parents think.  They said they saw her leaving wearing a white shirt, leaving behind her Waffle House issued shirt.  Gasp!  Will this ever resolve?

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, click here.

Airband 2008: The Videos

Last year I wrote about Airband and then brought you some videos of the occasion.  Well, here’s some selections from 2008’s Airband, with some videos to boot.

A group of international students kicked off the show with a Lion King medley.  Bright and colorful; I applaud the effort, but this was not really my favorite.

Another cute one involved 3SE, 3CE, and my friend Joe doing a song from Men In Black.  Gotta love the sleeping bag alien in this one.

Here’s one of my top three:  1EO with “Morris Brown” by OutKast.  Loved the energetic song choice, loved the set and costumes, and the performance was not too showy, just tight enough.

2WO did “Hard Knock Life.” The teeny bopper pop turn this one took at the midpoint confused me; I would have enjoyed it more with just the straight musical number.  Good job nonetheless.

Here’s probably my second favorite act of the show:  2WW and 3WO audaciously attempting a Daft Punk medley, and doing a pretty fine job of it.  Love the glowsticks, guys.

Finally, here’s the consensus favorite, 2EW with “Step in Time” from Mary Poppins.  This is just excellent; I’ll let the video speak for the performance without commentary, except to say that I liked this a lot, just like most everyone.

BONUS VIDEOS!

Sadly, I can’t find the best Airband commercial of all; it was about bike stealing, but I don’t want to spoil the twist – let me know if you find the video.

Here are two other commercials – the final chapter of the James Wahl saga (check out the video creator’s page for the first two editions) was pretty good; nothing will top the original Wahl exposure, though.

Here’s another favorite – lots of inside jokes, but pretty good whether you get them or not, I would think.

Lastly, this is Broho’s tryout video (here’s another version).  There’s really no excuse for this one not being in the show; it’s really funny, original and entertaining.  Enjoy.

I Heart Waffle House

I’ve now been to Waffle House twice.  I should probably say up front that the Waffle House responsible for both of my experiences is notably cleaner and less shady than the majority of Waffle Houses seem.  I’ve only had breakfast, basically, but I’ve had a variety of their food, and enjoyed it all.

The experience is pretty killer, too.  Today’s was even more exceptional than the last.  Actually, it started a little slow: our waitress was not very quick to ask for our drink orders, even though we sat at the bar (present: Mom, Dad, Amanda, Wyatt “the Wild Noodle”, and me).  We played three songs on the jukebox:  “There are Raisins in my Toast” (listen here), “Folsom Prison Blues”, and “Hey Ya”.  Actually, it said Hey Ya!, and we punched the right number, but it played Taylor Swift’s “Teardrops on my Guitar”.  I’m not a huge country fan, but I guess that’s an acceptably enjoyable guilty pleasure country teenybopper pop song.

The fun really went down after we ordered.  Our waitress, Jenni (name changed to protect the innocent) was orating our order to the Grill Operator (actual title), Roger (who looked EXACTLY like Huey Lewis), when she made a booboo.  Another older, more experienced waitress corrected her, and then they just about threw down RIGHT NOW.  The older waitress grabbed Jenni and forcefully – dragging her by the hand -  removed her to the backroom.  Jenni was not to be seen again, except through the door to the washroom.  She did dishes the rest of the morning.  Roger, who Wyatt and I later inducted into the Waiter Hall of Fame (TM), just took over, carrying the team on his back to keep things moving and complete our order.  Actually, there was a slight goofup, as my Bacon Egg & Cheese Texas toast magically had steak on it.  We ate it, and they provided the correct order, too.

The manager appeared out of nowhere to keep things under control.  He apologized to us (it wasn’t really necessary, but still appreciated) and picked up the tab on our meal (Wow!).

Anyway, as always: DELICIOUS.

Also, it was Amanda’s first WH experience, and I’m glad she got some drama to boot, although I must say I feel bad for Jenni.

Back at It

I am going to try to recommit to blogging.  Not that it’s a big deal, but it’s good to get my thoughts out, however briefly.

You can probably expect a redux of last year’s Airband piece (sans VIP seats, sadly) sometime soon.  With videos, too.

Anyway, I’m an RA (actually, at my school, we call them PAs, but outside of school I call myself an RA because everyone understands that) at my school now, so I’m sort of on the front lines of a lot of stuff and there are more demands on my time.

I go to a private Christian university that takes faith and academics very seriously.  We also take the idea of living in community very seriously.  To attend the school and be a part of the community, you agree to a group of regulations.  The school offers a pretty great education, but if you disagreed with part of our agreement, you could go to similar (although in the opinion of many, including a national newsmagazine, probably inferior) schools.

I have recently been realizing that many, many people are not committed to faith, learning, or community.  Therefore, I’m not really sure why they are here.  All of this is very frustrating – those who are committed to none of the above sure can do a good job of soiling everything up for those of us who take all three seriously.

To them:  why are you here?
